Trachelospermum
Trachelospermum is a genus of flowering plants in the family Apocynaceae. It is native to the temperate and tropical regions of Asia and North America. The genus includes evergreen, perennial, and woody-stemmed climbing plants, commonly known as star jasmine or confederate jasmine.
Description[edit | edit source]
The plants in the Trachelospermum genus are characterized by their glossy, dark green leaves and fragrant, star-shaped white flowers. The leaves are opposite, simple, and usually entire. The flowers are typically borne in terminal or axillary clusters and have a tubular corolla with a five-lobed limb. The fruit is a pair of follicles.

There are about 15 species in the Trachelospermum genus. Some of the most well-known species include:
- Trachelospermum asiaticum: Also known as Asian star jasmine, it is native to Japan and Korea.
- Trachelospermum jasminoides: Known as star jasmine or confederate jasmine, it is native to eastern and southeastern Asia.
- Trachelospermum difforme: It is native to China and has been introduced to other parts of the world as an ornamental plant.
Cultivation and uses[edit | edit source]
Trachelospermum species are popular ornamental plants due to their attractive foliage and fragrant flowers. They are often used as ground cover or for trellises and walls. They prefer well-drained soil and a position in full sun or partial shade. They are also used in traditional medicine in some cultures.
