Trento DOC
Trento DOC is a Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) designation for sparkling wine produced in the Trentino region of northern Italy. The Trento DOC appellation was established in 1993, and it is recognized for its high-quality Chardonnay, Pinot noir, Pinot Meunier, and Pinot Blanc sparkling wines, produced using the Traditional Method.
History[edit | edit source]
The history of Trento DOC is closely tied to the history of the Trentino region. The region has a long history of viticulture, dating back to the time of the Ancient Romans. However, the production of sparkling wine in the region did not begin until the early 20th century, when Giulio Ferrari, a local enologist, started producing sparkling wine using the Traditional Method after studying in Champagne, France.
Production[edit | edit source]
Trento DOC wines are produced using the Traditional Method, also known as the Champagne method. This involves a secondary fermentation in the bottle, which gives the wine its characteristic bubbles. The grapes used in the production of Trento DOC wines are primarily Chardonnay, Pinot noir, Pinot Meunier, and Pinot Blanc.
Styles[edit | edit source]
Trento DOC wines are produced in a variety of styles, including Blanc de Blancs, Blanc de Noirs, and Rosé. The wines are known for their complexity and elegance, with flavors ranging from fresh fruit and floral notes in the Blanc de Blancs, to richer, more complex flavors in the Blanc de Noirs and Rosé.
Pairing[edit | edit source]
Trento DOC wines are versatile and can be paired with a variety of dishes. They are particularly well-suited to seafood, poultry, and pasta dishes, as well as cheese and charcuterie.
