Trouble Will Find Me
Trouble Will Find Me is the sixth studio album by the American indie rock band The National. It was released on May 17, 2013, in various countries and on May 21, 2013, in North America by 4AD. The album was produced by band members Aaron Dessner and Bryce Dessner.
Background[edit | edit source]
Following the success of their previous album, High Violet, The National began working on Trouble Will Find Me in late 2011. The band took a more relaxed approach to recording this album, which was reflected in the more spontaneous and less polished sound compared to their earlier work.
Recording[edit | edit source]
The recording sessions for Trouble Will Find Me took place in various locations, including Aaron Dessner's home studio in Brooklyn, New York. The band also recorded parts of the album in Berlin, Los Angeles, and Upstate New York. The album features contributions from several guest musicians, including Sufjan Stevens, Sharon Van Etten, and Richard Reed Parry of Arcade Fire.
Composition[edit | edit source]
Trouble Will Find Me continues The National's tradition of introspective and melancholic lyrics, often dealing with themes of existential angst, love, and loss. The album's sound is characterized by its lush arrangements, intricate guitar work, and the deep baritone vocals of lead singer Matt Berninger.
Release and Promotion[edit | edit source]
The album was preceded by the release of the lead single, "Demons," on April 8, 2013. This was followed by the singles "Don't Swallow the Cap" and "Graceless." The band promoted the album with an extensive tour, including performances at major festivals such as Glastonbury and Bonnaroo.
Reception[edit | edit source]
Trouble Will Find Me received widespread critical acclaim upon its release. Critics praised the album for its emotional depth, cohesive sound, and the band's ability to evolve while maintaining their distinctive style. The album was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album.
