UDP-glucose 6-dehydrogenase (EC 1.1.1.22 ) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reaction converting UDP-glucose into UDP-glucuronic acid, a key metabolite in mammals for detoxifying various compounds and for the biosynthesis of polysaccharides such as glycosaminoglycans. This enzyme plays a crucial role in the metabolism of carbohydrates and in the process of detoxification.

UDP-glucose 6-dehydrogenase (UDPGD) is involved in the Pentose phosphate pathway, where it aids in the conversion of UDP-glucose to UDP-glucuronic acid. This reaction is critical for maintaining the balance of NAD+/NADH within the cell and for the production of UDP-glucuronic acid.
