The hospital is licensed for 199 beds and serves the residents of Lenoir, Greene, and Jones counties, as well as other surrounding counties. It is affiliated with UNC Health Care and is staffed with over 100 physicians. The hospital offers a wide range of services, including inpatient and outpatient care, preventive healthcare, and specialized services such as cardiology, pulmonology, oncology, radiology, urology, orthopedics, bariatric surgery, and vascular surgery.

The hospital also provides free educational health programs, seminars, and screenings. In 1986, the Lenoir Memorial Foundation was established to support the hospital by purchasing major equipment and sponsoring public health awareness programs. The foundation organizes fundraisers such as the Cradle Crowd, Charity Golf Tournament, and the Holiday Benefit Reception.

UNC Lenoir Health Care was built in 1973 to replace the outdated and small Lenoir Memorial Hospital. The new facility, located on Airport Road, was designed to accommodate 435 patients and was the result of more than eight years of planning. The hospital is led by L. Dan Duval, the hospital director, and employs over 700 people.
