United Nations Prize In The Field Of Human Rights
United Nations Prize in the Field of Human Rights is a prestigious international award bestowed by the United Nations (UN). It was established by the General Assembly in 1966 to honor and commend people and organizations which have made outstanding contributions to the promotion and protection of the human rights embodied in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and in other United Nations human rights instruments.

The United Nations Prize in the Field of Human Rights was first awarded on December 10, 1968, on the twentieth anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The prize is awarded every five years, in accordance with the resolution 2217 of the General Assembly, passed in 1966.
Selection Process[edit | edit source]
The selection of the laureates is carried out by a committee comprising of the President of the General Assembly, the President of the Economic and Social Council, the President of the Human Rights Council, and the Chair of the Commission on the Status of Women, under the guidance of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
