The University of Auckland is a public research university located in Auckland, New Zealand. Established in 1883, it is the largest university in the country, with over 40,000 students enrolled across its various campuses. The university is renowned for its research output and academic excellence.

The University of Auckland was founded in 1883 as a constituent college of the University of New Zealand. Initially, it was housed in a disused courthouse and jail. The university became independent in 1961 when the University of New Zealand was dissolved.
