The University of Copenhagen (Danish: Københavns Universitet) is a prestigious public research university located in Copenhagen, Denmark. Founded in 1479, it is the second oldest university in Scandinavia and has a rich history of academic excellence and innovation.

The University of Copenhagen was established on June 1, 1479, by King Christian I of Denmark after receiving approval from Pope Sixtus IV. Initially, the university had four faculties: Theology, Law, Medicine, and Philosophy. Over the centuries, it has grown to become one of the leading institutions of higher education in Europe.
During the Reformation, the university underwent significant changes, aligning itself with Lutheranism. The 19th century saw further expansion and modernization, with the introduction of new faculties and the construction of new buildings.
