The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) is a public university in San Antonio, Texas. It is part of the University of Texas System. Established in 1969, UTSA has grown to become the largest university in the San Antonio metropolitan region, with a student enrollment of over 34,000.

The University of Texas at San Antonio was established on June 5, 1969, by the 61st Texas Legislature. The university was created to provide higher education opportunities to the growing population of San Antonio and the surrounding areas. The first classes were held in 1973, and the first degrees were awarded in 1974.

Campuses[edit | edit source]

UTSA operates four campuses:

  • The Main Campus is located in the northwest part of San Antonio and is the largest of the four campuses.
  • The Downtown Campus is situated in the heart of San Antonio and focuses on community engagement and urban issues.
  • The Hemisfair Campus houses the Institute of Texan Cultures.
  • The Park West Campus is used primarily for athletics and recreational activities.

UTSA is classified as a R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity. The university is involved in various research initiatives and has several research centers and institutes, including the Texas Sustainable Energy Research Institute and the Institute for Economic Development.

Athletics[edit | edit source]

UTSA's athletic teams are known as the UTSA Roadrunners. The university competes in NCAA Division I as a member of Conference USA. The Roadrunners participate in various sports, including football, basketball, baseball, and track and field.
