The University of Worcester is a public university located in Worcester, England. It was established in 1946 as an emergency teacher training college and gained university status in 2005. The University of Worcester was originally founded as the Emergency Teacher Training College in 1946, in response to the need for more teachers following World War II. It became known as Worcester College of Higher Education in 1976, and later as University College Worcester in 1997.
