The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) is a private Catholic university located in San Antonio, Texas. Founded by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word in 1881, it is the largest Catholic university in Texas and the fourth largest private university in the state. UIW offers a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs, including health sciences, business, and liberal arts, through its various colleges and schools.

The University of the Incarnate Word was established in 1881 by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, who came to San Antonio to provide medical care and education. Initially founded as the Incarnate Word School, it has grown from a small college for women to a coeducational university serving a diverse student body.

Campus[edit | edit source]

The UIW campus is located in the heart of San Antonio, Texas, and features a blend of historic buildings and modern facilities. The campus is known for its beautiful landscaping, including a variety of native Texas plants and trees.

Academics[edit | edit source]

UIW is organized into several colleges and schools, including the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences; the H-E-B School of Business & Administration; the School of Health Professions; the Ila Faye Miller School of Nursing and Health Professions; and the School of Osteopathic Medicine. The university offers more than 90 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

Student life at UIW is vibrant and diverse, with over 90 student organizations, including academic clubs, cultural associations, and recreational sports teams. The university also emphasizes community service and global engagement, with numerous opportunities for students to participate in volunteer work and study abroad programs.

Athletics[edit | edit source]

The UIW Cardinals compete in the NCAA Division I Southland Conference. The university fields teams in a variety of sports, including football, basketball, soccer, and swimming and diving.
