- Upland was platted in 1867 by John Oswalt, who named it after the fact that the town site was one of the highest points in Grant County. The Upland post office has been in operation since 1873.

- Upland is located at 40°27′58″N 85°29′41″W. According to the 2010 census, Upland has a total area of 1.76 square miles, all land.
