Veniero's
Veniero's is a historic Italian bakery and patisserie located in the East Village neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. Established in 1894 by Italian immigrant Antonio Veniero, the bakery is renowned for its authentic Italian pastries and desserts, including cannoli, tiramisu, and sfogliatelle.
History[edit | edit source]
Antonio Veniero established Veniero's in 1894 as a pool emporium and candy shop. By 1896, the shop had evolved into a full-fledged bakery, serving Italian pastries made using Veniero's family recipes. The bakery has remained in the Veniero family for over a century, with its traditional baking methods and authentic Italian recipes passed down through generations.
Products[edit | edit source]
Veniero's offers a wide range of Italian pastries and desserts. The bakery is particularly famous for its cannoli, a traditional Sicilian dessert consisting of tube-shaped shells of fried pastry dough filled with a sweet, creamy filling. Other popular items include tiramisu, a coffee-flavoured Italian dessert made of ladyfingers dipped in coffee, layered with a whipped mixture of eggs, sugar, and mascarpone cheese, and sfogliatelle, a shell-shaped filled pastry native to Campania.
Recognition[edit | edit source]
Over the years, Veniero's has received numerous accolades for its authentic Italian pastries. The bakery was awarded the "America's Classics" award by the James Beard Foundation in recognition of its significant contribution to America's culinary heritage.
