- Vilas County is a county located in the state of Wisconsin, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 22,195. Its county seat is Eagle River. The county was created on April 12, 1893, and named for William Freeman Vilas, a member of the Wisconsin State Senate, a U.S. Senator, and Postmaster General under President Grover Cleveland.
