Vincent Fago (November 28, 1914 – June 13, 2002) was an American comic book artist, writer, and editor. He is best known for his work at Timely Comics, the 1940s predecessor of Marvel Comics, where he served as interim editor during World War II.

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Vincent Fago was born in Yonkers, New York. He developed an interest in art at a young age and pursued his passion by studying at the School of Industrial Art in New York City.

Career[edit | edit source]

Fago began his career in the comic book industry in the late 1930s. He initially worked for David McKay Publications, contributing to titles such as Feature Book and King Comics.

In 1942, during World War II, Stan Lee, the editor of Timely Comics, was drafted into the United States Army. Vincent Fago was appointed as the interim editor of Timely's animation comics section, overseeing titles such as Terrytoons and Animated Funny Comic-Tunes. He held this position until Lee's return in 1945.

After his tenure at Timely, Fago continued to work in the comic book industry, contributing to various publishers and titles. He also ventured into animation, working for Terrytoons and later for Weston Woods Studios, where he adapted children's books into animated films.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

Vincent Fago was married to D'Ann Calhoun Fago, an artist and writer. The couple had three children. Fago passed away on June 13, 2002, in Bethel, Vermont.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Vincent Fago's contributions to the comic book industry, particularly during a critical period in Timely Comics' history, have been recognized by comic book historians and enthusiasts. His work helped shape the early years of what would become Marvel Comics.
