W. Garfield Weston (1898–1978) was a British-Canadian businessman and philanthropist. He was the founder of the multinational food processing and distribution company, George Weston Limited.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Weston was born in Toronto, Canada, in 1898. He was the son of George Weston, a baker and businessman who founded the George Weston Limited company. He attended the University of Western Ontario where he studied business.

Career[edit | edit source]

In 1924, Weston took over his father's company, George Weston Limited, and expanded it into an international business. He established operations in the United Kingdom, Australia, and South Africa. Under his leadership, the company became one of the largest food processing and distribution companies in the world.

Philanthropy[edit | edit source]

Weston was also known for his philanthropic activities. He established the W. Garfield Weston Foundation in 1958, which supports a wide range of projects in the fields of education, science, and the environment.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

Weston was married to Reta Lila Howard and they had nine children. His son, Galen Weston, took over the family business and became one of the richest people in Canada.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Weston's legacy continues through the W. Garfield Weston Foundation and the continued success of George Weston Limited. His contributions to the food industry and philanthropy have had a lasting impact on both Canada and the international community.
