Washington Nationals
The Washington Nationals are a professional baseball team based in Washington, D.C.. They compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the National League (NL) East division. The team was established in 1969 as the Montreal Expos and was the first MLB franchise located outside the United States. The team moved to Washington, D.C., before the 2005 season and was renamed the Washington Nationals.

Montreal Expos (1969–2004)[edit | edit source]
The franchise was founded as the Montreal Expos, named after the Expo 67 World's Fair. The Expos played their home games at Jarry Park Stadium and later at Olympic Stadium. Despite some early success, the team struggled with attendance and financial issues.
Relocation to Washington, D.C. (2005)[edit | edit source]
In 2004, MLB announced that the Expos would relocate to Washington, D.C., for the 2005 season. The team was renamed the Washington Nationals, marking the return of MLB to the nation's capital for the first time since the Washington Senators moved to Arlington, Texas in 1971.
Nationals Park[edit | edit source]
In 2008, the Nationals moved to their new home, Nationals Park, located in the Navy Yard neighborhood of Washington, D.C. The stadium has a seating capacity of 41,339 and features modern amenities and views of the United States Capitol.
2019 World Series Championship[edit | edit source]
The Nationals won their first World Series championship in 2019, defeating the Houston Astros in seven games. This victory marked the first World Series title for a Washington-based team since the original Senators won in 1924.

The team's colors are red, white, and navy blue. The primary logo features a stylized "W" in white with a navy blue outline, set against a red background.

The Nationals' mascot is Screech, a bald eagle that debuted in 2005.
