Waters' view
Waters' view[edit | edit source]
Waters' view is a specific type of X-ray imaging technique used in radiology to visualize the sinuses, particularly the maxillary sinuses. It is named after the American radiologist, Arthur Walter Waters.
Procedure[edit | edit source]
The Waters' view is performed with the patient positioned in a way that the X-ray beam is projected through the maxillary sinuses. The patient's nose and chin are placed against the image receptor, with the head tilted slightly upward. This positioning allows for a clear view of the sinuses, free from any overlapping structures.
Applications[edit | edit source]
The Waters' view is primarily used to diagnose conditions affecting the sinuses, such as sinusitis, polyps, and tumors. It can also be used to assess the extent of facial fractures, particularly those involving the zygomatic arch and the orbital floor.
Advantages and Limitations[edit | edit source]
The Waters' view provides a detailed image of the maxillary sinuses, making it a valuable tool in the diagnosis of sinus conditions. However, it does not provide a comprehensive view of all the sinuses, and other imaging techniques may be required for a complete evaluation.
