Wesley J. Smith

Wesley J. Smith is an American author, lawyer, and bioethicist. He is a Senior Fellow at the Discovery Institute's Center on Human Exceptionalism. He is also a consultant to the Patients Rights Council. In May 2004, because of his work in bioethics, Smith was named one of the nation's premier expert thinkers in bioengineering by the National Journal.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Smith was born in Los Angeles, California. He studied at the University of California, Los Angeles and San Francisco State University, where he obtained his Bachelor's degree. He later attended Case Western Reserve University School of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctor degree.

Career[edit | edit source]

Smith began his career as a lawyer, practicing law in California. He later transitioned into writing and bioethics. He has written extensively on issues relating to human dignity, medical ethics, euthanasia, assisted suicide, stem cell research, and human cloning.

Works[edit | edit source]

Smith has authored or co-authored several books. His works include "Forced Exit: The Slippery Slope from Assisted Suicide to Legalized Murder" (1997), "Culture of Death: The Assault on Medical Ethics in America" (2000), and "The War on Humans" (2014).

Recognition[edit | edit source]

In 2004, Smith was recognized by the National Journal as one of the nation's premier expert thinkers in bioengineering.
