West Bloomfield

West Bloomfield is a charter township in Oakland County, Michigan, within the Detroit metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, the township had a population of 64,690.

West Bloomfield was established in 1833, originally part of Bloomfield Township. It was named for the western part of Bloomfield Township, which was named for the blooming fields seen by the township's founders.

Geography[edit | edit source]

West Bloomfield is located in southeastern Michigan. It is bordered to the east by Farmington Hills, to the south by Southfield, to the west by Commerce Township, and to the north by Orchard Lake Village and Keego Harbor.

Demographics[edit | edit source]

According to the 2010 United States Census, West Bloomfield had a population of 64,690. The racial makeup of the township was 77.6% White, 11.4% African American, 0.2% Native American, 8.2% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.4% from other races, and 2.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.4% of the population.

West Bloomfield is served by the West Bloomfield School District, Bloomfield Hills School District, and a small portion by the Farmington Public Schools. The township is home to several private schools, including Detroit Country Day School and Jewish Academy of Metropolitan Detroit.

Notable people[edit | edit source]

Several notable people have lived in West Bloomfield, including Steve Ballmer, former CEO of Microsoft, and Diane Rehm, radio talk show host.
