Wilcox Medical Center is a non-profit hospital located in Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii. It is part of the Hawaii Pacific Health network and serves the community of Kauai. The hospital offers a range of services including an imaging center, emergency department, and surgical center.

History[edit | edit source]

Wilcox Medical Center was founded in 1938 by George Norton Wilcox and Dora Isenberg. The hospital was built on land donated by the Lihue Plantation and opened with a 96-bed facility. Over the years, the hospital underwent several expansion programs to accommodate the growing needs of the community. In 1971, the Acute Patient Care Tower and Special Diagnostic and Treatment Facility were completed. The hospital has continued to expand and renovate its facilities to provide new services and programs.

Wilcox Medical Center gained recognition for treating surfer Bethany Hamilton after she lost her arm in a shark attack off the north shore of Kauai. The hospital has also opened the Wilcox Health Women's Center in 2010 to provide preventive and diagnostic care for women.

In 2016, Wilcox Memorial Hospital rebranded itself as Wilcox Medical Center.
