William Foulke was an English footballer who played as a goalkeeper during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was born on April 12, 1874, in Dawley, Shropshire, England. Foulke is best known for his time playing for Sheffield United and Chelsea.

Early Life[edit | edit source]

William Foulke began his football career with Blackwell Miners Welfare before moving to Sheffield United in 1894. Standing at an impressive height of 6 feet 4 inches, Foulke quickly established himself as one of the most dominant goalkeepers of his era.

Career[edit | edit source]

During his time at Sheffield United, Foulke helped the club win the FA Cup in 1899 and the Football League First Division in 1898 and 1902. His performances in goal earned him a reputation as a formidable and intimidating presence. In 1905, Foulke transferred to Chelsea, where he continued to display his exceptional goalkeeping skills. He played a crucial role in helping Chelsea gain promotion to the First Division in the 1906-1907 season.
