• Wood County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 41,964. Its county seat is Quitman. The county was named for George T. Wood, governor of Texas from 1847 to 1849.

Geography

• Wood County is located in the northeastern part of Texas. It is bordered by the counties of Smith, Upshur, Camp, Franklin, Hopkins, Rains, and Van Zandt. The county has a total area of 695 square miles, of which 645 square miles is land and 50 square miles is water.

Demographics

• As of the 2010 census, there were 41,964 people, 16,851 households, and 12,065 families residing in the county. The population density was 65 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the county was 94.1% White, 2.4% Black or African American, 0.8% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.3% from other races, and 1.1% from two or more races. 4.8% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
