Woodford Reserve[edit | edit source]

Woodford Reserve is a brand of premium bourbon whiskey that is produced in the Woodford County, Kentucky, United States. It is known for its rich flavor and smooth finish, which is a result of a unique production process that includes triple distillation and aging in new charred oak barrels.

History[edit | edit source]

The Woodford Reserve Distillery, where Woodford Reserve is produced, has a long and storied history. It was established in 1812 by Elijah Pepper and is one of the oldest distilleries in the United States. The distillery was later purchased by Leopold Labrot and James Graham in 1878, who ran it until Prohibition. After Prohibition ended, the distillery was bought by Brown-Forman, one of the largest American-owned spirits and wine companies.

Production Process[edit | edit source]

Woodford Reserve is made using a mixture of pot still spirits produced at the Woodford Reserve Distillery and column still spirits from the Brown-Forman Distillery. The bourbon is made from a grain recipe of 72% corn, 18% rye, and 10% malted barley. This mixture is then distilled three times in copper pot stills, a process that contributes to the bourbon's distinct flavor profile.

Flavor Profile[edit | edit source]

Woodford Reserve is known for its complex flavor that includes notes of dried fruit, vanilla, and toasted oak. It also has a rich, creamy mouthfeel and a long, smooth finish. This flavor profile has made Woodford Reserve a favorite among bourbon enthusiasts and has earned it numerous awards at spirits competitions.

Varieties[edit | edit source]

There are several varieties of Woodford Reserve available, each with its own unique flavor profile. These include the Woodford Reserve Distiller's Select, which is the brand's flagship bourbon, and the Woodford Reserve Double Oaked, which is aged in two separate barrels for a deeper, richer flavor. There is also the Woodford Reserve Master's Collection, which includes limited-edition releases that showcase the brand's innovative approach to bourbon production.
