The Worshipful Society of Apothecaries is one of the Livery Companies of the City of London. It is one of the oldest, most influential and most active. The society is a notable organization in the field of medical education in the United Kingdom and worldwide.

The Worshipful Society of Apothecaries was incorporated by Royal Charter from King James I on 6 December 1617, in a move to separate the apothecaries from the Worshipful Company of Grocers. The society was granted its Arms in 1618 and its Hall in Blackfriars in 1632, making it the oldest extant livery company Hall in the City of London.

Role and Influence[edit | edit source]

The Worshipful Society of Apothecaries has played a significant role in the development of the medical profession in England. It was the first to establish a formal examination system for physicians and continues to play an important role in medical education and regulation.

The Apothecaries' Hall in Blackfriars is the headquarters of the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries. It is one of the few livery halls in London to have survived both the Great Fire of London and the Blitz.
