YM-976
YM-976 is a drug that belongs to the class of pharmacological agents known as PDE4 inhibitors. It is primarily used in the treatment of respiratory diseases such as COPD and asthma.
Mechanism of Action[edit | edit source]
YM-976 works by inhibiting the action of the enzyme PDE4. This enzyme is responsible for breaking down cAMP, a molecule that plays a crucial role in the regulation of inflammatory responses in the body. By inhibiting PDE4, YM-976 increases the levels of cAMP, thereby reducing inflammation and improving lung function.
Clinical Use[edit | edit source]
YM-976 has been studied in clinical trials for its potential use in treating respiratory diseases. It has shown promise in reducing the symptoms of COPD and asthma, including shortness of breath, wheezing, and coughing. However, further research is needed to fully understand its efficacy and safety profile.
Side Effects[edit | edit source]
As with all drugs, YM-976 can cause side effects. The most common side effects reported in clinical trials include nausea, headache, and gastrointestinal disturbances. More serious side effects, such as cardiovascular events, have also been reported, but these are rare.
Research and Development[edit | edit source]
YM-976 was developed by Yamanouchi Pharmaceutical Co., a Japanese pharmaceutical company. It is currently not approved for use in any country, and its development is ongoing.
