Yasuj
Yasuj is a city in and the capital of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province, Iran. At the 2006 census, its population was 96,786, in 20,297 families. Yasuj is an industrial city in the Zagros Mountains of southwestern Iran.
The term "Yasuj" is also used to refer to the entire region.
Yasuj has both a sugar processing factory and a coal-burning powerplant that generates electricity for the area.
The people of Yasuj speak Luri.

Yasuj is named after the Sassanian king Yazdegerd I. The city was known as Tal-e Khosrow (Khosrow's Hill) before the Islamic period.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Yasuj is located in the mountains of central Zagros. It has a cold semi-arid climate (Köppen climate classification BSk).
Economy[edit | edit source]
The economy of Yasuj is based on the production of sugar, coal, and electricity. The city also has a number of small industries, including a cement factory, a dairy factory, and a power plant.
Culture[edit | edit source]
The people of Yasuj are primarily Lurs and they speak the Luri language. The city is known for its traditional music and dance.

Yasuj is home to several educational institutions, including Yasuj University and Yasuj University of Medical Sciences.
Transportation[edit | edit source]
Yasuj is served by Yasuj Airport, which offers flights to Tehran and other major cities in Iran.
