Yogyakarta
Yogyakarta is a city on the island of Java in Indonesia, and the capital city of the Special Region of Yogyakarta. It is renowned as a center of Indonesian education, culture, and history.

Yogyakarta has a historical significance in the Indonesian National Revolution against the Dutch Empire. The city was the capital of the Indonesian Republic from 1946 to 1948, when Jakarta was still occupied by the Dutch.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Yogyakarta is located in the southern part of Central Java, in the Yogyakarta Special Region. The city is situated about 18 km inland from the southern coast of Java and about 100 km southwest of Surakarta, another major city in Central Java.
Culture[edit | edit source]
Yogyakarta is known as the center of classical Javanese culture, including batik, ballet, drama, music, poetry, and puppet shows. The city is also famous for its silverwork and handicrafts.
Education[edit | edit source]
Yogyakarta is a major center for education in Indonesia, with several universities and higher education institutions, including Gadjah Mada University, one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Indonesia.
Tourism[edit | edit source]
Yogyakarta is a popular tourist destination in Indonesia, known for its cultural heritage, historical landmarks, and natural beauty. The city is close to the Borobudur and Prambanan temple complexes, both of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
