York Peppermint Pattie
York Peppermint Pattie[edit | edit source]
The York Peppermint Pattie is a popular confectionery product that is known for its distinctive combination of dark chocolate and peppermint. It was first produced in 1940 by the York Cone Company in Pennsylvania, United States.
History[edit | edit source]
The York Peppermint Pattie was created by Henry C. Kessler at the York Cone Company during the 1940s. The company was known for its ice cream cones, but Kessler wanted to expand the product line. He aimed to create a candy with a refreshing taste, and the result was the York Peppermint Pattie. The candy was initially sold in the Northeastern United States, Ohio, Indiana, and Florida.
In 1972, the York Cone Company was acquired by Peter Paul Cadbury, who continued to produce the York Peppermint Pattie. In 1975, the production was moved to Reading, Pennsylvania. In 1988, Hershey Foods Corporation acquired the York Peppermint Pattie from Peter Paul Cadbury.
Product Description[edit | edit source]
The York Peppermint Pattie is a round candy that consists of a peppermint center covered in dark chocolate. The peppermint center is firm and white, with a strong peppermint flavor. The dark chocolate coating is thin and slightly bitter, which complements the sweet peppermint center.
The York Peppermint Pattie is known for its slogan, "Get the Sensation," which refers to the cool, refreshing sensation of the peppermint.
Variations[edit | edit source]
Over the years, several variations of the York Peppermint Pattie have been introduced. These include the York Peppermint Pattie Miniatures, which are smaller versions of the original candy, and the York Peppermint Pattie Pieces, which are bite-sized candies with the same peppermint and dark chocolate combination.
In Popular Culture[edit | edit source]
The York Peppermint Pattie has been featured in various forms of media and popular culture. It has been mentioned in television shows, films, and books, often as a favorite candy of a character.
