Česnečka

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Česnečka is a traditional Czech soup made primarily from garlic and potatoes. It is a popular dish in the Czech Republic, known for its strong garlic flavor and hearty ingredients.

Ingredients and Preparation[edit | edit source]

The main ingredients of Česnečka are garlic, potatoes, and broth, usually chicken or vegetable. Other ingredients can include onions, marjoram, caraway seeds, and sometimes smoked meat or sausage. The soup is typically garnished with chopped fresh parsley and served with bread.

To prepare Česnečka, the garlic and onions are sautéed in a pot until fragrant. Potatoes are then added and cooked until tender. The broth is added to the pot, along with the marjoram and caraway seeds. The soup is simmered until all the flavors are well combined. If meat is used, it is added towards the end of the cooking process. The soup is then seasoned with salt and pepper to taste.

Cultural Significance[edit | edit source]

Česnečka is often consumed in the Czech Republic during the cold winter months due to its warming properties. It is also a popular remedy for hangovers. The soup is commonly found in Czech restaurants and is a staple in Czech home cooking.
