3M Company, formerly known as Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company, is an American multinational conglomerate corporation operating in the fields of industry, worker safety, health care, and consumer goods. The company produces over 60,000 products under several brands, including adhesives, abrasives, laminates, passive fire protection, personal protective equipment, window films, paint protection films, dental and orthodontic products, electronic materials, medical products, and car-care products.

3M was founded in Two Harbors, Minnesota, in 1902 by five businessmen: Henry S. Bryan, William A. McGonagle, John Dwan, Hermon Cable, and Dr. J. Danley Budd. Initially, the company focused on mining a mineral deposit for grinding-wheel abrasives. However, the venture failed, and the company shifted its focus to producing sandpaper products.

In 1910, 3M moved to Duluth, Minnesota, and in 1916, it paid its first dividend of 6 cents per share. The company continued to grow and innovate, developing products such as Scotch Tape and Post-it Notes.
