4'-Methyl-a-pyrrolidinobutiophenone
4'-Methyl-α-pyrrolidinobutiophenone (MPBP) is a psychoactive drug and research chemical belonging to the substituted cathinone family. It is structurally related to α-PPiP and α-PPP, and is believed to act as a stimulant and nootropic.
Chemistry[edit | edit source]
4'-Methyl-α-pyrrolidinobutiophenone is a synthetic cathinone, an amphetamine-like stimulant, which are often referred to as 'bath salts'. Its chemical structure consists of a phenyl ring bonded to an amino (NH2) group through a ethyl chain with a ketone functional group at the beta carbon. This core structure is referred to as a beta-keto amphetamine. The pyrrolidinophenone portion of the molecule is a modified form of phenethylamine, with a pyrrolidine ring forming at the alpha carbon resulting in a molecule with both amphetamine-like and ketone function.
Pharmacology[edit | edit source]
The exact mechanism of action of 4'-Methyl-α-pyrrolidinobutiophenone is not well understood. However, it is believed to act as a norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor (NDRI), similar to other synthetic cathinones. This means it increases the levels of the neurotransmitters norepinephrine and dopamine in the brain by inhibiting their reuptake into neurons. This results in increased neuronal activity and stimulation.
Effects[edit | edit source]
The effects of 4'-Methyl-α-pyrrolidinobutiophenone can vary greatly depending on the dose, individual physiology, and method of administration. However, common effects reported by users include feelings of euphoria, increased alertness and focus, increased energy and motivation, and increased sociability. Some users also report experiencing negative side effects such as anxiety, paranoia, and insomnia.
Legal Status[edit | edit source]
The legal status of 4'-Methyl-α-pyrrolidinobutiophenone varies by country and region. In many places, it is classified as a controlled substance due to its potential for abuse and addiction. However, it is also often sold online as a 'research chemical' or 'designer drug', often under different names to evade legal restrictions.
