7-Hydroxymitragynine
7-Hydroxymitragynine is an alkaloid found in the Mitragyna speciosa plant, also known as kratom. It is a potent opioid analgesic and is considered the primary active compound in kratom, contributing significantly to its pain-relieving effects.
Chemistry[edit | edit source]
7-Hydroxymitragynine is a terpenoid indole alkaloid. It has a molecular formula of C23H30N2O5 and a molecular weight of 414.50 g/mol. The compound is soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and acetic acid.
Pharmacology[edit | edit source]
7-Hydroxymitragynine acts as a μ-opioid receptor agonist, similar to other opioids like morphine. However, it is significantly more potent. The compound also interacts with other opioid receptors, including the κ-opioid receptor and δ-opioid receptor, albeit to a lesser extent.
Effects[edit | edit source]
The effects of 7-Hydroxymitragynine are similar to other opioids. It produces analgesia, sedation, and euphoria. However, the compound also has some unique effects, including anti-inflammatory and antitussive properties.
Legal status[edit | edit source]
The legal status of 7-Hydroxymitragynine varies by country and state. In some places, it is considered a controlled substance and is illegal to possess or distribute. In others, it is legal and can be purchased over the counter.
