8β-VE2
8β-VE2 (8β-Vinylestradiol) is a synthetic estrogen and a derivative of estradiol. It is characterized by the presence of a vinyl group at the 8β position of the estradiol molecule. This modification alters its pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics compared to natural estradiol.
Chemical Structure[edit | edit source]
8β-VE2 has the chemical formula C_18H_24O_2 and a molecular weight of 272.38 g/mol. The IUPAC name for 8β-VE2 is (8R,9S,13S,14S,17S)-13-methyl-6,7,8,9,11,12,14,15,16,17-decahydrocyclopenta[a]phenanthrene-3,17-diol.
Pharmacology[edit | edit source]
8β-VE2 acts as an agonist of the estrogen receptors, similar to estradiol. However, the presence of the vinyl group at the 8β position may influence its binding affinity and activity at the receptor level. This can result in different pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties compared to natural estradiol.
Uses[edit | edit source]
8β-VE2 is primarily used in research settings to study the effects of modified estrogens on various biological systems. It is not commonly used in clinical practice.
Synthesis[edit | edit source]
The synthesis of 8β-VE2 involves the chemical modification of estradiol to introduce a vinyl group at the 8β position. This process typically requires several steps, including protection and deprotection of functional groups, as well as selective reactions to achieve the desired modification.
