8-Prenylnaringenin

8-Prenylnaringenin (also known as 8-PN or Hopein) is a prenylflavonoid, and one of the most potent phytoestrogens known. It is found in hops (Humulus lupulus) and beer, and is the subject of research for its potential health benefits.

8-Prenylnaringenin is a member of the class of compounds known as prenylflavonoids. These are flavonoids with a structure that contains a prenyl group, which is a 3-methylbut-2-en-1-yl or 3,3-dimethylallyl group. The compound is a potent phytoestrogen, and is the most estrogenic compound yet discovered in nature.

The primary natural source of 8-Prenylnaringenin is the hop plant (Humulus lupulus), where it is found in the female flowers, known as cones. It is also found in beer, as hops are used in its production.
