Abbottabad
Abbottabad is a city located in the Hazara region of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, in Pakistan. The city is situated in the Orash Valley, and is known for its pleasant weather, high-standard educational institutions and military establishments. It remains a popular tourist destination owing to its scenic beauty.

Abbottabad was founded in January 1853 by Major James Abbott, after whom the city is named. He was a British army officer and the first Deputy Commissioner of Hazara. The city was an important military cantonment during the British rule in India.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Abbottabad is located in the northern part of Pakistan, in the Orash Valley. It is surrounded by hills, which gives it a unique and scenic beauty. The city is located at an altitude of 1,260 meters (4,134 ft) above sea level.
Climate[edit | edit source]
The city has a humid subtropical climate, with mild to warm temperatures during the spring and autumn, hot summers and cool to cold winters. A significant amount of rainfall occurs in Abbottabad, even in the driest month.
Education[edit | edit source]
Abbottabad is known for its educational institutions. Some of the notable ones include the Pakistan Military Academy, which is located in Kakul near Abbottabad, and the Ayub Medical College. The city is also home to the University of Engineering and Technology, Abbottabad, COMSATS University, and Abbottabad University of Science and Technology.
