Abdesslam Yassine

Abdesslam Yassine was a prominent Moroccan Islamic scholar and political activist. He was born on November 8, 1928, in Marrakesh, Morocco. Yassine was the founder and leader of the Justice and Charity organization, a non-violent Islamic movement advocating for social justice and political reform in Morocco.

Yassine's early life was marked by his dedication to Islamic studies and his involvement in social and political issues. He received his education in Islamic law and theology at the prestigious Qarawiyyin University in Fez, Morocco. Yassine was known for his charismatic leadership and his ability to mobilize followers around his vision of a just and equitable society based on Islamic principles.

In 1973, Yassine founded the Justice and Charity organization, which quickly gained a large following among disaffected youth and marginalized communities in Morocco. The organization's platform called for greater political freedoms, social justice, and an end to corruption in government. Yassine's teachings emphasized the importance of social welfare, economic equality, and the need for Muslims to actively engage in the political process.

Throughout his life, Yassine faced opposition from the Moroccan government, which viewed his organization as a threat to its authority. He was arrested multiple times and subjected to periods of house arrest and surveillance. Despite these challenges, Yassine remained steadfast in his commitment to peaceful activism and non-violent resistance.

Abdesslam Yassine passed away on December 13, 2012, leaving behind a legacy of social and political activism inspired by Islamic values. His teachings continue to influence a new generation of activists and scholars seeking to address the pressing issues of social justice and political reform in Morocco and beyond.
