Abu dhabi

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Abu Dhabi is the capital city of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It is the second most populous city in the UAE after Dubai. Abu Dhabi is located on an island in the Persian Gulf, off the Central West Coast. The city is also the capital of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the largest of the UAE's seven emirates.

History[edit | edit source]

The area surrounding Abu Dhabi was inhabited as far back as the 3rd millennium BC, and its early history fits the nomadic herding and fishing pattern typical of the broader region. Modern Abu Dhabi traces its origins to the rise of an important tribal confederation, the Bani Yas, in the late 18th century, which also assumed control of Dubai.

Economy[edit | edit source]

Abu Dhabi's rapid development and urbanization, coupled with the massive oil and gas reserves and production and relatively high average income, have transformed it into a large, developed metropolis. It is the center for the political, industrial activities, and a major cultural, and commercial centre due to its position as the capital.

Culture[edit | edit source]

Abu Dhabi is home to international and local institutions, including the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Zayed National Museum, the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, and the Emirates Palace. The city's cultural imprint as a society is seen in the architecture like the Sheikh Zayed Mosque, museums, exhibitions, and art galleries.

Education[edit | edit source]

Abu Dhabi has a diverse and multicultural society. The city's cultural imprint is seen in the architecture, music, attire, cuisine, and lifestyle. There are a number of cultural institutions in the city, including the Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation.
