Overview

Acoustic radiation is the process by which sound energy, in the form of sound waves, is emitted from a source and travels through a medium. This medium can be any material substance, including air, water, or solid materials. The sound waves cause the particles in the medium to vibrate, and this vibration is what we perceive as sound.

The intensity of the acoustic radiation is determined by the power of the source and the distance from the source. As the distance from the source increases, the intensity of the sound decreases. This is known as the inverse square law.

Acoustic radiation has a wide range of applications. In medicine, it is used in ultrasound imaging to create images of the inside of the body.
