Adare Manor is a manor house located in the village of Adare, County Limerick, Ireland. The manor is a renowned example of a Gothic Revival style mansion and is set on an extensive estate that includes a golf course, gardens, and woodlands.

History[edit | edit source]

The original structure on the site was a medieval manor house that belonged to the Earls of Dunraven and Mount-Earl. The current building was commissioned by the second Earl of Dunraven, Windham Henry Quin, in the early 19th century. Construction began in 1832 and was completed in 1862. The design was influenced by the Gothic Revival movement, which was popular in the 19th century.

Architecture[edit | edit source]

Adare Manor is noted for its elaborate and intricate architectural details. The exterior features turrets, gargoyles, and stone carvings. The interior is equally impressive, with grand staircases, stained glass windows, and ornate woodwork. The Great Hall is one of the most notable rooms, featuring a hammerbeam roof and a large fireplace.

Gardens and Grounds[edit | edit source]

The manor is set within a large estate that includes formal gardens, a walled garden, and extensive woodlands. The gardens were designed to complement the Gothic Revival style of the manor and include a variety of plant species, fountains, and statues. The estate also features a championship golf course, which has hosted several prestigious tournaments.

Today, Adare Manor operates as a luxury hotel and resort. It offers a range of amenities, including fine dining, a spa, and various outdoor activities such as fishing, horse riding, and archery. The manor is also a popular venue for weddings and other special events.
