Aggressive lymphoma
Aggressive Lymphoma is a type of cancer that originates from lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell. It is characterized by its rapid growth rate and progression, which distinguishes it from indolent lymphoma, a slower-growing form of the disease.
Types[edit | edit source]
There are several types of aggressive lymphoma, including diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), mantle cell lymphoma (MCL), and Burkitt lymphoma. Each type has unique characteristics and requires different treatment approaches.
Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma[edit | edit source]
DLBCL is the most common type of aggressive lymphoma. It can occur at any age but is most often diagnosed in people aged 60 and above. The disease can start in any part of the body where lymph tissue is found, such as the lymph nodes, spleen, or bone marrow.
Mantle Cell Lymphoma[edit | edit source]
MCL is a rare form of aggressive lymphoma that typically affects older adults. It is more common in men than in women. MCL often involves the gastrointestinal tract, bone marrow, and lymph nodes.
Burkitt Lymphoma[edit | edit source]
Burkitt lymphoma is a highly aggressive form of lymphoma that is most common in children and young adults. It is associated with Epstein-Barr virus infection and is most prevalent in areas where malaria is endemic.
Symptoms[edit | edit source]
Symptoms of aggressive lymphoma can vary depending on the type and stage of the disease. Common symptoms include fever, night sweats, unexplained weight loss, and swollen lymph nodes.
Treatment[edit | edit source]
Treatment for aggressive lymphoma typically involves chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and in some cases, stem cell transplantation. The choice of treatment depends on the type and stage of the disease, as well as the patient's overall health.
Prognosis[edit | edit source]
The prognosis for aggressive lymphoma varies widely depending on the type and stage of the disease, as well as the patient's overall health. Early detection and treatment can significantly improve the prognosis.
