Alain Chapel

Alain Chapel (30 December 1937 – 10 July 1990) was a renowned French chef and a prominent figure in the nouvelle cuisine movement. He was born in Lyon, France, and became one of the most influential chefs of his time, known for his innovative approach to traditional French cuisine.

Alain Chapel was born into a family with a strong culinary background. His father, Marcel Chapel, was a chef and owned a small restaurant in Mionnay, a village near Lyon. Alain began his culinary training under his father's guidance and later honed his skills at the prestigious École Hôtelière de Thonon-les-Bains.

Chapel's career took off when he took over the family restaurant, Restaurant Alain Chapel, in Mionnay. Under his leadership, the restaurant earned its first Michelin star in 1973, followed by a second star in 1976, and finally, the coveted third star in 1977.
