Early Life and Career[edit | edit source]

Carr was born in London, England. He qualified as an accountant in 1958. Although successful in his career, Carr was a heavy smoker until 1983, when he quit smoking after attending a hypnotherapy session. He claimed that he was able to stop smoking without any difficulty, and this inspired him to develop his own method to help others quit smoking.

The Easyway Method[edit | edit source]

Carr's method, known as the Easyway method, is a cognitive-behavioral approach to quitting smoking. It focuses on changing the smoker's perception of smoking and removing the psychological dependence on cigarettes. The method has been described in several of Carr's books, the most famous being The Easy Way to Stop Smoking.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Allen Carr's Easyway method has helped millions of people worldwide to quit smoking. The method has been adapted to address other addictions and issues, such as alcoholism, weight loss, and anxiety.

Death[edit | edit source]

Carr was diagnosed with lung cancer in the summer of 2006. He died on 29 November 2006 at his home near Málaga, Spain. Despite his illness, Carr continued to promote his method and help others quit smoking until his death.
