From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Amstel is a popular brand of beer that originated in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It was first brewed by Amstel Brewery in 1870 and has since become a well-known brand worldwide.

History[edit | edit source]

Amstel Brewery was founded on June 11, 1870 in Amsterdam and named after the Amstel River, the waters of which were used for cooling the beer. The brewery was initially a local venture, but it quickly expanded its reach. By 1883, Amstel was delivering beer to every address in Amsterdam.

In 1968, Amstel Brewery was acquired by Heineken International, a Dutch brewing company. Since then, Amstel has become a significant part of Heineken's product portfolio, and it is now available in more than 100 countries.

Products[edit | edit source]

Amstel Brewery produces a variety of beers, including:

  • Amstel Lager: This is the flagship beer of Amstel and is a pale lager. It is known for its distinctive, slightly bitter taste.
  • Amstel Light: Introduced in the 1980s, Amstel Light is a light beer with a lower alcohol content and fewer calories than Amstel Lager.
  • Amstel Radler: This is a mixture of Amstel Lager and lemon juice, creating a refreshing, low-alcohol beverage.

Marketing and Sponsorship[edit | edit source]

Amstel has been involved in various marketing campaigns and sponsorships over the years. It has sponsored major events such as the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League. The brand is also a major sponsor of the Amstel Gold Race, a professional cycling race held annually in the Netherlands.
