Andorra, officially the Principality of Andorra, is a microstate situated in the Eastern Pyrenees mountains and bordered by France to the north and Spain to the south. It is the sixth-smallest nation in Europe, with an area of 468 square kilometers and a population of approximately 77,543. The capital and largest city is Andorra la Vella.

History[edit | edit source]

The origins of Andorra can be traced back to Charlemagne, who is traditionally credited with granting a charter to the Andorran people in return for their assistance against the Moors. The current political system was established in 1993, following the ratification of a new constitution.

Government and Politics[edit | edit source]

Andorra is a constitutional diarchy, with the President of France and the Bishop of Urgell serving as co-princes. The General Council is the legislative body, and the Head of Government is the executive leader.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Andorra is located in the Eastern Pyrenees and is known for its mountainous terrain. The highest point is Coma Pedrosa, which stands at 2,942 meters. The country is divided into seven administrative divisions known as parishes.

The economy of Andorra is primarily driven by tourism, which accounts for roughly 80% of the GDP. The country is also known for its banking sector and duty-free shopping. The official currency is the Euro, although Andorra is not a member of the European Union.

Demographics[edit | edit source]

The official language is Catalan, but Spanish, French, and Portuguese are also commonly spoken. The population is a mix of Andorran nationals and immigrants from neighboring countries.

Andorra has a rich cultural heritage influenced by its neighbors, France and Spain. The country celebrates various traditional festivals, and Catalan culture plays a significant role in its cultural identity.
