Anil Menon (NASA astronaut)
Anil Menon is an American NASA astronaut and physician. He was selected as a NASA astronaut candidate in December 2021. Menon has a background in emergency medicine and aerospace medicine, and he has served in various capacities within the NASA and SpaceX programs.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Anil Menon was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He attended Harvard University, where he earned a degree in neurobiology. He then went on to receive his M.D. from Stanford University School of Medicine. Menon also holds a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
Medical Career[edit | edit source]
Menon completed his residency in emergency medicine at Stanford University Medical Center. He has worked as an emergency physician in various hospitals and has been involved in aerospace medicine research. Menon has also served as a flight surgeon for NASA and SpaceX, providing medical support for astronauts and space missions.
NASA Career[edit | edit source]
In December 2021, Anil Menon was selected as a member of the 23rd group of NASA astronaut candidates. This group is also known as the "Artemis Generation," as they are expected to be involved in the Artemis program, which aims to return humans to the Moon and eventually send astronauts to Mars.
SpaceX Involvement[edit | edit source]
Before joining NASA, Menon worked at SpaceX as a flight surgeon. In this role, he was responsible for the health and safety of the astronauts during SpaceX missions, including the Crew Dragon missions to the International Space Station (ISS).
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
Anil Menon is married and has children. He is known for his dedication to both his medical and astronautical careers, and he continues to contribute to the advancement of human space exploration.
