Antonios Mikos
Antonios G. Mikos is a prominent bioengineer and biomaterials scientist known for his significant contributions to the fields of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. He is currently the Louis Calder Professor of Bioengineering and Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Rice University in Houston, Texas.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Antonios Mikos was born in Greece. He received his undergraduate degree in chemical engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He then moved to the United States to pursue his graduate studies. Mikos earned his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Purdue University.
Career[edit | edit source]
After completing his Ph.D., Mikos joined the faculty at Rice University where he has held various academic positions. He is the founding director of the Center for Excellence in Tissue Engineering and the J.W. Cox Laboratory for Biomedical Engineering at Rice University. Mikos has also served as the director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Center for Engineering Complex Tissues.
Research Contributions[edit | edit source]
Mikos's research focuses on the development of new biomaterials for use in tissue engineering and drug delivery. His work has led to the creation of biodegradable polymers that can be used to support the growth of new tissues and organs. Mikos has published over 600 articles and holds numerous patents in the field of biomaterials and tissue engineering.
