Mythology[edit | edit source]
In Greek mythology, Apollon (commonly known as Apollo) is one of the Olympian deities. He is the god of many things, including music, poetry, art, oracles, archery, plague, medicine, sun, light, and knowledge. Apollo is the son of Zeus and Leto, and has a twin sister, the chaste huntress Artemis.
Attributes and Symbols[edit | edit source]
Apollo is often depicted with a lyre, which symbolizes his association with music and poetry. Other symbols include the laurel wreath, the python, the raven, and the bow and arrows.
Temples and Worship[edit | edit source]
Apollo was widely worshipped in ancient Greece, with major temples dedicated to him, such as the Temple of Apollo at Delphi and the Temple of Apollo at Didyma. The Delphic Oracle, one of the most important oracles in the ancient world, was associated with Apollo.
Sports[edit | edit source]
Apollon is also a name associated with various sports clubs, particularly in Greece and Cyprus.
