Areca vestiaria is a species of palm in the Arecaceae family. It is native to the Maluku Islands and New Guinea. This palm is known for its striking red crownshaft and is commonly referred to as the "red crownshaft palm."
Description[edit | edit source]
Areca vestiaria is a medium-sized palm that can grow up to 10 meters in height. The trunk is slender and smooth, typically measuring around 10-15 cm in diameter. The most distinctive feature of this species is its bright red crownshaft, which contrasts beautifully with the green fronds. The leaves are pinnate, with leaflets arranged along either side of the rachis.

Areca vestiaria is popular in cultivation due to its ornamental value. It prefers a warm, humid climate and can be grown in USDA hardiness zones 10-11. The palm requires well-drained soil and benefits from regular watering and fertilization. It is often used in landscaping for its striking appearance.
Uses[edit | edit source]
In addition to its ornamental use, Areca vestiaria has cultural significance in some indigenous communities in its native range. The seeds of the palm are sometimes used in traditional practices.
