Ariana Grande-Butera (born June 26, 1993) is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. Known for her wide vocal range and powerful voice, Grande has become one of the most influential and successful pop artists of the 21st century. Her music, which often explores themes of love, empowerment, and personal growth, has earned her numerous awards and accolades.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Ariana Grande was born in Boca Raton, Florida, to Joan Grande, the CEO of Hose-McCann Communications, and Edward Butera, a graphic design firm owner. She began her career in the arts at a young age, performing in local theater productions and singing at public events. Grande attended North Broward Preparatory School, where she balanced her studies with her burgeoning career in entertainment.

Career[edit | edit source]

Acting[edit | edit source]

Grande's first major role was in the Broadway musical 13 in 2008, where she played the character Charlotte. Her performance in the musical earned her a National Youth Theatre Association Award. She gained further recognition for her role as Cat Valentine on the Nickelodeon television series Victorious (2010–2013) and its spin-off Sam & Cat (2013–2014).

Music[edit | edit source]

Grande's music career began with the release of her debut album, Yours Truly, in 2013. The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart, and its lead single, "The Way", featuring Mac Miller, reached the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100.

Her second studio album, My Everything (2014), continued her success, producing hit singles such as "Problem", "Break Free", and "Love Me Harder". Grande's subsequent albums, Dangerous Woman (2016), Sweetener (2018), Thank U, Next (2019), and Positions (2020), solidified her status as a pop icon.

Influences and Style[edit | edit source]

Grande's music is primarily pop and R&B, with elements of EDM, hip hop, and trap. She cites Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and Madonna as major influences on her vocal style and musical direction. Her four-octave vocal range and whistle register have drawn comparisons to Mariah Carey.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

Grande has been open about her struggles with anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), particularly following the Manchester Arena bombing in 2017, which occurred during her Dangerous Woman Tour. She has used her platform to advocate for mental health awareness and support.

In 2021, Grande married real estate agent Dalton Gomez.

Philanthropy[edit | edit source]

Grande is known for her philanthropic efforts, including her support for causes such as animal rights, mental health, and LGBTQ+ rights. She has participated in numerous benefit concerts and campaigns, including the One Love Manchester concert, which raised funds for the victims of the Manchester bombing.
